Sunshine
Comes the sunshine after a few days of rain;
First in the east appears a faint glow of red
The
long absent sun reigns in the sky again.
It's a clear day ! So we hurry out of bed.
Today is the day to dry all our wet dresses ;
On the clothes lines , one by one, ever so neat.
Not
a space is left for babe's wet mattresses ,
For mom must hang all wet nappies and spreadsheet .
" Mom , can I go out to see the red apples ?"
" Sure my dear , go put on your gumboots and run
!"
" Me too ! ", pipes in another voice that giggles.
All eager to be out in the sun and fun .
Little kids are skipping ropes in the garden ;
Bigger boys look for birds' nests or climb the
wall.
After the games , they eat apples , cakes and raisins.
It's holiday so they can play till nightfall.
The poet, attracted by the sun and the sounds
Leaves the poem on the desk and runs out of door.
There
he blinks at the sun and goes round and round
From the garden all the way to the sea-shore.
